    About The Hyundai G4ED engine

    The Alpha series of engines was called the first successful experience of the Hyundai concern. The design of the engines repeats the scheme of the well-known Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi, the Orion family. True, the Koreans copied the parameters from only two models - 4G11 and 4G12. A whole series of new internal combustion engines appeared, with a volume of 1.3 and 1.5 liters. But the 1.6-liter G4ED was not copied - it was developed from scratch in 2000. Serially produced for 11 years, installed on many Hyundai models. This is a 4-cylinder gasoline unit of the Alpha 2 series. Its volume is 1.6 liters. The motor scheme is classic - atmospheric type, in-line. This design is useful for reducing vibrations and high loads. In addition, atmospherics are cheaper in terms of production, so the final price for them is low.

    Features of the G4ED Engine

    • The valves of this motor are oppressed with a 100% probability when the timing belt breaks. The owner should regularly monitor the condition of the rubber toothed element, check the tension of the roller.
    • The G4ED engine initially provides high efficiency, as it is long-stroke. In other words, the piston stroke is larger in relation to the cylinder diameter.

    Features of the lubrication system

    One of the main systems of the engine is lubrication. On the G4ED, it consists of a sump, a pump, a filter and various channels.
    1. The oil pump is driven by the crankshaft.
    2. The pump maintains the pressure in the system at the required level, and as soon as the pressure rises, the check valve (bypass) is activated. Excess oil will fall back into the sump.
    3. Another valve is located directly in the filter - oil passes through it directly to the engine mechanisms, even if the filter is very dirty and does not work. This is specially provided for by the design so as not to leave the rubbing elements of the internal combustion engine without lubrication. Thus, the overhaul period is reduced, but dirty oil leaves a large amount of impurities in the engine, which sooner or later leads to a malfunction.
    4. The filter cleans the oil coming from the crankcase, then sends it directly to the main line. Further, the lubricant flow is divided - one goes to the main bearings of the crankshaft and connecting rod bearings, the second - to the cylinder head, for lubricating the hydraulic pushers and camshaft bearings. But to cool the piston group, oil is supplied by spraying. In a single stream, the lubricant flows through the cylinder head and BC back into the oil pan.

    G4ED does not like low-grade oil, as befits a picky foreigner. The owner must be extremely attentive to the quality of the lubricant, always check it for the presence of water, discoloration and thinning. If he notices that the quality has deteriorated, he should be replaced immediately. It is also important to regularly check the oil level according to standard instructions.
    1. Warm up the internal combustion engine to a temperature of 90 degrees, then stop.
    2. After 5 minutes, the oil drains into the sump. Here you need to remove the dipstick, and check the level. The mark must be between L and F.
    3. If it is lower, then you need to add lubricant. If higher, then check the operation of the oil pump. In both cases, do not operate the engine, but deal with the causes.
    We must not forget that due to a lack of oil, there is a rapid wear of the internal mechanisms of the internal combustion engine, and due to an excess, intense splashing leads to contamination of the candles and destruction of the cuffs.
    Particular attention should be paid to the choice of lubricant. The manufacturer recommends looking at the API parameters. First of all, the oil should be intended for S - gasoline unit, and not C - diesel. The next letter of the name indicates the quality of the lubricant - the last letter in the English alphabet, the better the composition is considered. For a Korean motor, SE or SG is recommended. The first classification is more suitable just for Russia, where the road surfaces are not so good, and the engine experiences periodic loads. Another important lubricant parameter is viscosity. This value indicates the fluidity of the composition. In winter, the engine fluid should not freeze, be liquid in order to flow faster to the required parts of the engine. In the summer, it is necessary to use a thick oil that does not break the film on hot. The required viscosity index for a 1.6-liter G4ED is usually 5W, 10W30 / 40, in winter - 5W20 / 30.
