Hyundai G4EK Accent 1. 3/1.8 FI Engine FAQ
About The Hyundai G4EK engine
This is a 1.5-liter engine of the G4 series, produced in the period 1991-2000. The main conveyor was located at the plant in Ulsan. The G4EK motor was equipped with a single camshaft. There are 3 versions of it: regular, turbocharged and 16-valve G4FK.
The motor is very reminiscent of its subcompact counterparts G4EB and G4EA. It is reliable, economical, easy to maintain, not very whimsical to the type of fuel.
It is noteworthy that the G4EK engine was originally produced by Mitsubishi. Hyundai engineers immediately noticed him, they liked him, and off they went. They changed the name from 4G15 to their own. However, the engine did not survive practically any restyling.
Consider the features of the G4EK power unit.
- There are no automatic hydraulic lifters here, so the owner must regularly (every 90 thousand km) adjust the valves. Many people forget this, and are forced to tune only when it starts to knock hard.
- The valve clearances on the G4EK should be 0.15mm inlet and 0.25mm exhaust. The values on a cold ICE are different than on a hot one.
- Timing belt drive. The manufacturer indicates that it will last 100 thousand km, but this is unlikely. It is necessary to periodically monitor the condition of the rubber element, since when it breaks, the valve bends.
- The cylinders of this internal combustion engine operate according to the 1-3-4-2 scheme.

G4EK Engine Problems
There are not so many of them.- Let's start with increased and floating speeds on the twentieth. This is almost the most common problem of all G4. And the throttle valve, which is released in a peculiar design, is to blame. A new original, but better high-quality analog throttle assembly will solve the speed problem.
- The second serious problem of this motor is strong vibrations. They are also often found on all models of the series. As a rule, the malfunction is associated with the wear of the pillows that secure the engine to the body. Often the reason is in the revolutions of the twentieth, which should be slightly raised.
- The third problem is difficult starting. If the fuel pump is clogged, then it is necessary to remove it, disassemble or replace it. Another reason may be hiding in the spark plugs, which are flooded in the cold. According to experts, it is not worth actively operating the G4EK motor in the cold season.
- After 200 thousand km, oil zhor begins. Replacing the piston rings solves the problem.
