The M270 engine family consists of three variants: 1.6-liter DE16 AL red. and DE16 AL , as well as the 2 liter DE20 AL. All are 4-cylinder direct injection petrol power units of the third generation (operating pressure - 200 bar), equipped with a turbocharger, new Camtronic technology (optional) with two-level variable camshaft timing, BlueDIRECT system , piezo injectors and multi-spark ignition... The compression ratio is 10.3: 1. The engine block is made of aluminum alloy. The engine includes a variable valve timing mechanism at the intake and exhaust. The engine has balance shafts, oil and water pumps with different variable pumping rates and the most reduced friction between the main parts of the unit. Special injectors allow fuel to be atomized in a special way, which shortens the time and improves the quality of combustion. This is facilitated by multi-spark ignition, which gives up to four discharges in less than one millisecond. Variable camshaft operation allows the engine to work optimally at different speeds. The engine is equipped with a Bosch MED17.7 electronic control unit. The following variants are offered as a transmission for the Mercedes-Benz M270: six-speed manual transmission with start-stop system ; 7G-DCT 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission with start-stop system ; 7-speed automatic transmission 7G-Tronic Plus with start-stop system for rear- and all-wheel drive vehicles.
