Review Of The Nissan Sentra
Introudction to the Nissan Sentra
In August 2014, Nissan held a presentation of the new Sentra sedan, which is the third incarnation of the Bluebird Sylphy model (the second generation is produced in South Africa under the name Nissan Almera). Nissan Sentra was maximally adapted for operation on South African roads.
In addition to increased ground clearance, the car received an upgraded suspension, thanks to which, according to the manufacturer, the Sentra guarantees a comfortable ride and obedience to drive even on the worst road surfaces. The new car is characterized by an attractive appearance and high aerodynamic characteristics. In the South African market, Sentra is offered with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine rated at 116 hp. The engine is paired with a five-speed “mechanics” or CVT.
One of the features of this sedan is its wide range of equipment options. The basic configuration is called Welcome and is offered only with a manual transmission, consisting of the following equipment: steel wheels, halogen headlights; power accessories (glass, mirrors), heated side mirrors and front seats; on-board computer, air conditioning, air ducts to the feet of the rear passengers and front armrest; multifunction steering wheel and audio preparation with 4 speakers. The Comfort is equipped with a CD / MP3 audio system with 4 speakers, AUX, USB inputs and a Bluetooth wireless system. The Elegance version includes front foglights, alloy wheels, an armrest for rear passengers, dual-zone climate control, and an audio system with 6 speakers.
The sedan is equipped with a single 117-horsepower 1.6-liter gasoline engine. As already mentioned, the engine is paired with a five-speed “mechanics” or CVT. In the first modification, the maximum speed of the car is 192 km / h, and in combination with the variator – 184 km / h. The acceleration from standstill to a mark of 100 km / h – 10.6 seconds. and 11.3 seconds respectively. The declared fuel consumption of a car equipped with “mechanics” is 8.2 liters per 100 km in the urban cycle, 5.5 liters in the country, the average figure is 6.4 l / 100 km. The version with the variator consumes 8.1 liters of gasoline per 100 km in the urban cycle, 5.4 liters in the country, the average rate is the same – 6.4 l / 100 km.
The Nissan Sentra has McPherson front independent suspension and semi-rear rear suspension. It is worth noting that the South African version of the car received a modernized suspension with reinforced front anti-roll bar and a rear torsion beam, as well as improved springs and shock absorbers. The wheelbase of the sedan is 2700 mm. The minimum turning radius of this front-wheel drive vehicle is 5.5 meters. Ground clearance is at 155 mm. As a standard, the car receives 16 “steel wheels with decorative caps and 205/55 R16 tires, in more expensive trim levels (Elegance and higher)” casting “is offered, and in the top configuration 17” alloy wheels with 205/50 R17 tires.
The basic equipment of the sedan includes frontal airbags for the driver and passenger (passenger – deactivable), ISOFIX mounts, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control, as well as electronic brake force distribution (EBD). Starting with the Elegance equipment, side pillows provide a higher level of comfort and safety, while Elegance Plus has light and rain sensors and an auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror. Tekna offers xenon headlights with auto-corrector, LED running lights. Power elements of the Sentra body are made with significant use of heavy-duty steels. For the South African market, in addition to changes in the suspension, modernization of the car includes reinforced body floor panels.
Nissan Sentra can be considered as a family sedan with a good supply of space in the cabin and a roomy trunk, the volume of which is 511 liters. In addition, the car has a 60/40 folding rear seat that enhances functionality. As an alternative to the Sentra, the second-generation Nissan Tiida single-platform hatchback can be considered. Unfortunately, both cars in the South African market offer only one engine option, which limits the possibilities for buyers.
