Review Of The Nissan Sentra
Introduction To Nissan Tiida
The five-door Nissan Tiida hatchback is built on the same platform as the Sentra sedan, which is produced at the IzhAvto plant and sold in Russia. From the European counterpart, produced under the name Nissan Pulsar, the version for South Africa is distinguished by an increased clearance of 155 mm, a reinforced suspension, a battery with a larger capacity.
If we talk about the differences with the Sentra sedan, then they mainly come down to the body shape and exterior – the hatchback has an original appearance, in addition, Nissan is positioning the new generation Tiida as a car for a younger audience than the Sentra sedan. There is a difference in equipment – for example, a leather interior is not available for Tiida. In addition, the Tiida is slightly shorter (4,387 mm versus 4,625 mm for the sedan) and its trunk is more modest, but the wheelbase of the hatchback is the same – 2,700 mm, which guarantees a good supply of space in the rear and makes the Nissan Tiida one of the most spacious in the class. In the technical stuffing and interior, the cars are completely identical. In the South African market, Tiida is offered with a four-cylinder 1.6-liter engine in combination with a five-speed “mechanics” or variator.
The basic equipment of the Nissan Tiida in the Welcome configuration (only on “mechanics”) includes power windows for all four doors, an electric power steering, adjustment of the steering column for reach and height, adjustment of the driver’s seat in height, as well as air ducts for rear passengers and audio training. In more expensive versions, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, keyless entry and engine start with a button, cruise control, a NissanConnect multimedia system with a navigation system and other equipment are provided.
Under the bonnet is a four-cylinder 1.6-liter HR16DE engine with 117 hp. (158 Nm). Available types of transmission: five-speed “mechanics” and a variator. The declared fuel consumption of a car equipped with “mechanics” is 8.2 liters per 100 km in the urban cycle, 5.5 liters in the country, the average figure is 6.4 l / 100 km. The version with the variator consumes 8.1 liters of gasoline per 100 km in the urban cycle, 5.4 liters in the country, the average rate is the same – 6.4 l / 100 km. But in the modification on the “mechanics” the maximum hatchback speed is 188 km / h, and in combination with the CVT – 180 km / h. Acceleration from standstill to a mark of 100 km / h also vary – 10.6 seconds. and 11.3 seconds respectively.
The Nissan Tiida has McPherson front independent suspension and semi-rear rear suspension. Some models received a modernized suspension with reinforced front anti-roll bar and a rear torsion beam, as well as improved springs and shock absorbers. The minimum turning radius of this front-wheel drive vehicle is 5.5 meters. Ground clearance is at 155 mm. As a standard, the hatchback received 16 “steel rims with decorative caps and 205/55 R16 tires, alloy wheels in more expensive trim levels (Elegance and higher), and 17” alloy wheels with 205/50 R17 tires in the top Tekna configuration.
The basic equipment of the hatchback includes frontal airbags for the driver and passenger (passenger – disconnectable), ISOFIX mounts, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control, as well as electronic brake force distribution (EBD). Starting with the Elegance Plus, a higher level of comfort and safety is provided by light and rain sensors, an auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror. And in the Tekna configuration – xenon headlights with auto-corrector, LED running lights. Tiida power elements are made with significant use of heavy-duty steels, providing a high degree of body rigidity.
Nissan Tiida can be considered as a family hatchback with a good supply of interior space. True, it is inferior to the sedan in the volume of the trunk, offering 307 liters compared to 511 liters in the Sentra, but in its features – a less sloping roof and more headroom for rear passengers, and the presence of a fifth door makes the hatchback very functional. Unfortunately, both cars in some markets offer only one engine option, which limits the possibilities for buyers.
