    About The Jeep Compass

    Jeep Compass Review

jeep compassThe compact crossover Jeep Compass debuted in 2006 at the North American Auto Show; two conceptual versions preceded this: one in 2002 (Detroit), with a futuristic design, in a three-door body and with a powerful V6, the second in 2005 (Frankfurt), which presented a pre-production model with the set of units that became the main one for the model: a 2.4-litre gasoline “four” of the World Engine, and to it a six-speed “automatic” or a variator.

Together with the Jeep Patriot, Compass took the junior model in the Jeep family and focused primarily on purchasing a Jeep car for the first time. Compass is built on the DaimlerChrysler / Mitsubishi GS platform, just like the Patriot. It differs from the latter by a more “sporty” exterior design. In 2011, a restyled version of the Compass appeared: dramatic changes occurred in the design of the front end of the body, the car became more like the Grand Cherokee, although it did not lose its individuality.

The limited model features new halogen spotlights, chrome grille surrounds and 18-inch alloy wheels. The noise-cancelling windscreen improves the acoustic performance of the passenger compartment. Standard equipment includes electrically adjustable heated side mirrors, heated front seats, a six-way power driver’s seat, and an automatic climate control system. The standard head unit plays audio files from CDs and DVDs, MP3 players, iPods, USB devices from hard disk, and Bluetooth connection. The leather multifunction steering wheel is equipped with audio and cruise control buttons. The Premium Sound Group package features a Boston Acoustics nine-speaker speaker system.

The Jeep Compass is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder in-line 16-valve engine with variable valve timing for intake and exhaust valves. Maximum engine power – 170 hp. Sec., torque – 220 Nm. Combined with the 6-speed automatic transmission, the Jeep Compass has a top speed of 187 km / h and accelerates to 100 km / h in 10.7 seconds. The same parameters with a variator (CVT) – 205 km / h and 11.3 seconds. Gasoline consumption in the presence of an “automatic” – 7.1 l / 12 litres (highway/city), and combination with a continuously variable transmission – 7 litres per 100 km outside the city and 11.3 l / 100 km urban cycle. The volume of the fuel tank is 51 litres.

The Jeep Compass has a completely independent suspension: McPherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear. At the same time, the running gear of the updated Compass has undergone a reconfiguration; it is distinguished by modernized springs, shock absorbers and a rear anti-roll bar. The suspension kinematics and all-wheel-drive system are tuned in such a way that allows the Jeep Compass to move confidently even in conditions when one or more wheels are not touching the ground – i.e. with the so-called “diagonal hanging”. The proprietary all-wheel-drive system Freedom I can quickly “close” the interaxle clutch, transmitting half of the torque to the rear wheels, and you can forcibly lock the clutch from the button. The variator is equipped with a downshift mode; among other things, the CVT advantage lies in the presence of a “pseudo-hand” mode.

The Jeep Compass is excellently prepared in terms of safety too. Standard Dynamic Stability Control integrates various systems, including an anti-lock braking system, full-speed traction control, emergency braking assist and electronic roll-over control (ERM). The latter helps prevent rollover by engaging the brakes and reducing engine power when cornering or taking the wheels off the road, which helps to maintain control of the vehicle even in an emergency. The standard equipment also includes front and side airbags, curtain airbags, active head restraints, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a parking assist system and a rearview camera. However, it is worth considering.

Jeep Compass buyers can look forward to both premium equipment and excellent cross-country ability – the genes of the legendary SUV manufacturer can be seen in this SUV too. Despite the deceptive appearance of a typical urban crossover, the Compass significantly surpasses its competitors in the parquet genre in cross-country ability and endurance. It is also a practical car – the backrests of the rear seats that fold into a flat floor increase the trunk volume from 330 to 1269 litres.
