Jaguar S Type 3.0 V6 PERTOL engineJaguar Cars is an English luxury car brand that is part of Jaguar Land Rover, 2 a car manufacturer based in Whitley, Coventry, West Midlands, England. Since March 2008 the company belongs to the Indian automotive and industrial group Tata Motors.

Founded in 1922 as ” Swallow Sidecar Company ” by William Lyons , it was renamed Jaguar Cars after World War II because of the unfortunate connotations of the initials SS , coinciding with the company name up until before World War II , SS Cars.

Jaguar is known for its luxurious sedans and sports cars , market segments it has been in since the 1930s.

The company was independent until it was integrated into the nationalized British Motor Corporation in 1966. In 1984 it entered the stock market as an independent company, only to be purchased by Ford in 1989-1990. In 1999 he became part of Ford’s new Premier Automotive Group with Aston Martin , Volvo and Lincoln . Land Rover was added to the group in 2000, after being sold by BMW.

On March 25, 2008 Ford Motor Company sold the Jaguar and Land Rover brands and technology to the Indian automotive group Tata Motors in a transaction of close to $ 2.3 billion.

The company was originally located in Blackpool but was relocated to Coventry to be at the heart of the British car industry. Today the factories are on Browns Lane in Coventry , Castle Bromwich in Birmingham, and Halewood in Liverpool . The Browns Lane plant was closed in 2005, leaving production of aluminum vehicles at Castle Bromwich and steel vehicles at Halewood.

Jaguar owns the Daimler Motor Company (not to be confused with Daimler-Benz), which it bought in 1960. Daimler was reduced to little more than a brand name for Jaguar’s most luxurious passenger cars.
