Scrap Yards in Pretoria

This page lists scrap yards across Pretoria — Engine Finder partner yards, which are verified, and public listings sourced from Google Maps. Each card shows the suburb, rating and contact details, and the map shows where each yard is. You can also submit a parts enquiry and several local yards will quote you directly.

Used engine prices depend on make, model, mileage and condition. Common Japanese and Korean engines usually cost less, while late-model German and 4x4 engines cost more. Request quotes from a few Pretoria yards to compare like-for-like — prices vary widely.

Start by confirming your exact engine code (stamped on the block) and the donor vehicle requirements — same make, model, year range and transmission type. Request quotes from multiple Pretoria scrap yards, ask for the donor vehicle's mileage and service history, and confirm warranty terms in writing before paying. Visiting the yard to inspect before purchase is always safer than paying sight-unseen.

Inspect the engine block and head for cracks, welds or visible oil leaks, and check for signs of overheating (discolouration around the head). Ask to see the donor vehicle, verify the engine number matches the documentation, and confirm the mileage. Reputable Pretoria yards will let you start the engine on a test rig or in the donor car before you pay.

Yes, but the swap must be registered with NaTIS within 21 days if the engine number changes. You'll need a roadworthy certificate, a police clearance for the new engine number, and the SARS / eNaTIS form (DRC). Most established Pretoria scrap yards can supply the engine number documentation and a sale invoice you'll need for the registration update.

Warranty terms vary by yard — most reputable scrap yards in Pretoria offer between 30 days and 6 months on used engines, while reconditioned units often carry 6–12 months. Cover is usually limited to internal mechanical failure and excludes ancillaries, fitment errors and overheating damage. Always get the warranty terms in writing before paying.

A well-chosen used engine with a verified low-mileage donor and proper fitment can run for another 80,000 to 200,000+ km. Longevity depends mostly on the donor's service history, the quality of the fit, and ongoing maintenance (regular oil changes, cooling system care). Ask each Pretoria yard for the donor mileage before you commit.

The main risks are unknown service history, hidden internal damage (worn bearings, cracked heads), and buying from a yard that won't honour the warranty. Mitigate this by inspecting the engine in person where possible, getting warranty terms in writing, and using verified yards. Comparing quotes from multiple Pretoria yards through Engine Finder gives you negotiating leverage and a paper trail if something goes wrong.
